Bauhaus Archive/Museum of Design
Address:
Klingelhofer St., 14
The Bauhaus Archive/Museum of Design
in Berlin is concerned with the research and presentation of
the history and impact of the Bauhaus (1919-1933), the most
important school of architecture, design, and art of the 20th
century.
It is the most complete existing collection focused on the history
of the school and all aspects of its work and is accessible
to all. The collection is housed in a building drafted by Walter
Gropius, the founder of the school.
The Bauhaus Archive presents parts of its collection in a permanent
Bauhaus exhibition. Temporary special exhibitions are dedicated
to individual artists, or to topical themes in the fields of
art, architecture, and modern design.
The holdings of the Bauhaus Archive cover various fields of
collection, providing a unique documentation on the history
of the Bauhaus, and enabling us to understand the achievements
of the school in the domains of art, education, architecture,
and design. The extensive collection includes studies from the
courses, workshop pieces from all fields of design, architectural
plans and maquettes, artistic photography, documents, the photographic
archive on the history of the Bauhaus, and the library.
